Retrofitting the RX chip

Until now, the RX chip could only be configured when placing a new order – retrofitting was not possible.

However, due to high demand, it is now possible to retrofit the RX chip on many models.

Which bikes can be retrofitted?

Most models fitted with the Bosch Smart System can be retrofitted. Bikes fitted with a Pinion drivetrain that do not come with an RX chip as standard can also be retrofitted.

Which bikes cannot be retrofitted?

The following models cannot be retrofitted:

  • Charger4 GT automatic*

  • Charger4 GT Rohloff*

  • Culture (silent, touring and vario)

  • Delite4 GT Rohloff*

  • Homage4 GT Rohloff*

  • Load4 60 Rohloff*

  • Load4 75 Rohloff*

  • Multicharger2 GT (Mixte) automatic*

  • Multicharger2 GT (Mixte) Rohloff*

  • Nevo4 GT Rohloff*

  • Nevo4 GT automatic*

  • Packster2 70 GT automatic*

  • Carrie2 automatic

  • All models fitted with the Bosch eBike System 2

* If these models are factory-fitted with ABS 2.0, the chip can also be retrofitted to these bikes. This is due to complex technical interdependencies.

Where can I have my bike retrofitted?

Please contact your Riese & Müller specialist dealer. They can order the chip from us and fit it professionally.

How much does the retrofit cost?

The cost of the retrofit kit depends on the model – partly because the complexity of the retrofit varies. The price for retrofitting your bike is set by your dealer – please feel free to ask for a quote in-store.

Am I also entitled to a ConnectCare Free or ConnectRide Free service if I have my bike retrofitted?

Yes, bikes with retrofitted RX chips can also benefit from a free RX service for one year.

You can find all the information about ConnectRide Free and ConnectCare Free here.

Why is the retrofit kit more expensive than the configuration on a new bike?

Every RX Tracker is unique and is pre-assigned to a specific bike at our premises. This ensures that the correct bike is displayed in your RX app and that only you have access to your location.

This process is significantly less labour-intensive during the manufacture of a new bike than it is for a retrofit installation. For this reason, the recommended retail price of the retrofit kit is slightly higher than the RRP for the factory-fitted configuration.
